UPDATE: Gazprom agrees not to suspend gas supplies to Moldova yet

(Rewrites story)

MOSCOW, Nov 24 (PRIME) -- Moldova has asked Russian gas giant Gazprom to wait until Friday for its payment for previous gas supplies and not to suspend gas supplies yet, and Gazprom has agreed, spokesman for the company Sergei Kupriyanov said.

“The Moldovan government has asked Gazprom not to suspend gas supplies today. The Moldovan side recognizes the legitimacy of Gazprom’s actions and promises to settle the current payments fully on Friday, November 28. As an exclusion, Gazprom… has agreed with the request,” he said.

Kupriyanov also said that Gazprom hopes all the future payments will be performed by the state in line with the schedule.

Earlier in the day, he said that Gazprom did receive the current payment for gas from Moldova when it was due.

"The current gas payment from Moldova has not arrived. The 48-hour period after notification about termination of supplies due to non-payment expires today," Kupriyanov said.

On Monday, he said that Gazprom would suspend supplies to the country in 48 hours if does not receive payment for the period ending on Monday.
